Using the guides

Who are these guides written for?

We wrote these guides for owners and managers of livery yards, studs, private estates and farms with horses. They are based on the work we do every week, so the advice is practical and tested.

Most horse care advice online is written for the south of England. Here in the North East, grass grows later, winters are wetter and many fields sit on heavy clay. We keep that in mind in every guide.

If you would rather hand the work over, our pasture and paddock management service covers the jobs in the grazing guide. We also offer livery yard and biosecurity support across the North East, from Northumberland down to North Yorkshire.

Each guide is free to read and share. If you spot something that does not fit your yard, tell us. We are always happy to talk through a problem, and that is often how a new guide starts.

New guides are added a few times a year. You can find more help on our services pages, or read about how we approach equine farm management as a whole.
