Overview

What does equestrian estate management involve?

An equestrian estate is a business, a home and a piece of countryside all at once. Horses need daily care, fields need looking after, buildings need repairs and the people who work there need direction. Keeping on top of it all takes time and know-how that many owners simply do not have spare.

Estate management means handing that work to someone who does it every day. We set up written routines, plan the year ahead, organise staff and contractors, and keep track of spending. You stay in charge of the big decisions and we deal with the detail.

The level of help is up to you. Some owners want a manager on site most days. Others are happy with regular visits and remote oversight, especially if they already have a good groom or yard manager in place.

What our estate management service includes

Every property is different, so we agree the exact scope with you. These are the areas we usually cover.

Routines and planning

We write down daily, weekly and seasonal routines so standards stay the same whoever is on duty.

Staff and contractors

We book and supervise grooms, farriers, fencers and grounds contractors, and check the work is done properly.

Budgets and spending

We set an annual budget with you, buy feed and bedding, and report spending against the plan each month.

Land and grazing

Each field gets a 12-month plan covering grazing, soil health, weed control and maintenance.

Buildings and facilities

Stables, barns, arenas, water and fencing follow a planned maintenance schedule that we agree with you.

Welfare and compliance

Passports, health records, risk assessments and emergency plans are kept current and easy to find.

Getting started

How do we get started?

The first steps are the same for every service, and none of them commit you to anything.

  1. A first conversation

We talk about your property, your horses and what you want to achieve, and answer your questions. There is no obligation.

  2. A site visit

We look round the yard, land and buildings and go through your routines and records to see what is working and what is not.

  3. A written proposal

You receive a clear proposal setting out what we recommend, how involved we would be, the timescales and the cost.

  4. Management and reporting

We put the plan into action and send you regular reports in plain English, so you always know where things stand.

FAQs

Common questions about estate management

Can’t see your question? Try our main FAQ page or ask us directly.

Do you need to be on site every day?

Not always. Some estates need a manager on site most days, while others run well with planned visits and remote oversight. We will suggest the right level once we have seen your property.

Can you work with our existing staff?

Yes. Most estates already have good people. We work alongside them, introduce clear routines and help them develop. We are not there to replace them.

How do you handle spending?

We agree an annual budget and spending limits with you before we start. Anything above those limits needs your approval, and each month you get a report showing what has been spent and why.

Can you manage an estate if we live abroad or are away for long periods?

Yes. It is one of the most common reasons owners contact us. We act as your eyes and ears on site, send regular written updates and contact you straight away if anything urgent comes up.
