Yard Staffing & Training
Yard staffing and training for a capable, settled team
Good people make a good yard. We help you find, organise and train skilled grooms and yard staff, and arrange cover when you need it.
- Groom and yard manager recruitment
- Rotas, written procedures and training
- Holiday and absence cover
Overview
Why is it so hard to keep good yard staff?
Finding and keeping skilled equestrian staff is one of the biggest challenges for yard owners. Long hours, unclear roles and little training all lead people to move on, and every departure means more work for those who stay.
We help you build a team that stays. We define each role clearly, recruit the right people, set fair rotas and write simple procedures so everyone knows what is expected. We can also support staff who want to gain qualifications.
When you need extra help for holidays, illness or a busy season, we can arrange experienced cover.

Getting started
How do we get started?
The first steps are the same for every service, and none of them commit you to anything.
A first conversation
We talk about your property, your horses and what you want to achieve, and answer your questions. There is no obligation.
A site visit
We look round the yard, land and buildings and go through your routines and records to see what is working and what is not.
A written proposal
You receive a clear proposal setting out what we recommend, how involved we would be, the timescales and the cost.
Management and reporting
We put the plan into action and send you regular reports in plain English, so you always know where things stand.
FAQs
Common questions about staffing & training
Can’t see your question? Try our main FAQ page or ask us directly.
Do you employ the staff, or do we?
Either can work. Most clients employ their own staff with our support. In some cases we can arrange cover or contract staff. We will explain the options and who is responsible for what.
Can you help staff gain qualifications?
Yes. We can find suitable training routes, such as British Horse Society qualifications or equine apprenticeships, and build development plans around them.
Can you provide cover at short notice?
We will always try. Planned cover is much easier to arrange, so we encourage clients to book holiday cover well in advance.
What should a groom’s job description include?
A good job description sets out daily duties, hours and days off, who the person reports to, the skills and experience needed, and any extra tasks such as travelling to competitions. Being clear from the start avoids misunderstandings later.
